1998-1999
student of Dr. Jim Buckner
I was a student of [Dr. Buckner] and a member of the HSU band for a very very short period in 1998-1999. I just came across your trumpet alumni website and thought I would send an update should any of my old friends have interest in what has happened to me. After my year there at HSU I transferred to Texas A&M University where I earned a B.S. in Construction Science. Currently, I reside in Houston, Texas working for a construction company as an Assistant Project Manager. Unfortunately, I have not been good about picking up my trumpet and playing. It’s been years. But, I remember marching in the HSU band that Fall of ’98 and thinking, “This is what I have been waiting for my entire life…to march in a band surrounded by unbelievably gifted musicians.” Every since I was a little boy that is all I ever wanted to do. I would watch the Atlanta, Texas high school band every Friday night (back in the 80’s when they rocked) on my mom’s lap wishing I could be out there. Even though it was only one year, I am so thankful that I got to fulfill that dream of marching in a great band. I still listen to my CD of that marching season. I loved it!
