Jim Woolly is a native of Little Rock and holds degrees from the University of Arkansas and the Ph.D. from the University of Southern Mississippi. An outstanding soloist and clinician, Jim Woolly has done successful work in junior high and college teaching. He is primarily the horn teacher at Henderson State University, but he also teaches trumpet and low brass students as necessary.
Woolly has been a member of the North Arkansas Symphony, Arkansas Symphony, Meridian, Mississippi Symphony, and the Gulf Coast Symphony. He served as principal horn for the Pensacola Symphony, Oak Ridge Symphony, and for over 20 years as principal horn for the South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. He is a founding member of the Arkansas Brass.
Dr. Woolly is also a member of the International Horn Society.
