John L. Prothro, Jr. (1943-2008) of Pell City, Alabama, formally of Gurdon, Arkansas, left this life on May 13, 2008. Johnny was born in 1943 to John and Frances Prothro in El Dorado, Arkansas and spent his younger years in Gurdon, Arkansas. Johnny graduated from Gurdon High School in 1961 and from Henderson State Teachers College in 1965. Johnny directed bands in both Arkansas and Texas and participated as an active member and past president of the Four States Bandmasters Association. Johnny held a Master’s Degree in music from Henderson State University and numerous Technical Degrees from nursing to preaching. Johnny is survived by hundreds of friends and his brother Lennie Prothro and his sister Beth Williams. Johnny has 5 nieces and nephews and 10 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Frances Prothro.
