Another old post from 2010:
Talk about fun — last Thursday I played a rehearsal and concert with Tom Tirrato, who performs Frank Sinatra songs. Great trumpet parts! Also on the band were Billy Hunt, who played with Woody Herman next to Bill Chase, and Paul von Adam, who played with Stan Kenton with Mike Vax. Paul was very good friends with Bill Chase and Bud Brisbois. I had a great time listening to stories about them.
Friday and Saturday were South Arkansas Symphony playing Orff’s Carmina Burana with a large choir. The stage had to be expanded to accommodate everyone, and Sunday was a rehearsal with Mass Brass and Percussion.
It was like being in college again — 5 rehearsals and 2 concerts in 4 days. If you’re in college now, enjoy the crazy time. Unless you go professional, you won’t often experience it again!
